Yoga with Shelagh in the heart of Saddleworth!
I am available for 1:1 yoga sessions at my beautiful studio, Nurture Yoga & Therapy Centre in Diggle. If you are recovering from injury or have specific goals you would like to achieve from a progressive yoga practice with a staged approach, please use the contact form and I’ll be very happy to discuss your individual goals and work together towards them.
I have practiced yoga in its many forms for 25 years but in 2010, I first found the practice that was the catalyst for my exploration of yoga as a mind/body philosophy and opened my mind to the wealth of benefits this ancient practice can have on our physical and mental health.
Since then, I have continued to practice regularly with a variety of teachers and completed 3 years of yoga teacher training in 2018 with the British Wheel of Yoga. I continue to learn and evolve as a teacher and student, exploring new styles and attending continued professional training. My most recent influences are Bernie Clark and Peter Blackaby as both maintain the traditional teachings of yoga whilst acknowledging these must be adapted to a modern context, acknowledging scientific discovery. I was lucky enough to recently complete Yin Yoga teacher training with Bernie Clark himself and look forward to weaving this style into my teaching.
For me, yoga is about cultivating balance through movement and stillness and so my focus is as much on breathing, relaxation and meditation practices as it is on the physical postures that most of us recognise as yoga.
My Hatha yoga classes are a careful balance of ancient wisdom and modern science, with an emphasis on slow, meaningful progression. As a Chiropractor, I have extensive knowledge of the human body and so adapt my teaching to suit all abilities as well as safely accommodating those with particular physical needs and restrictions. Over time, with consistent practice, yoga will help you to develop strength and flexibility of mind and body and so can help improve physical and emotional resilience.
I believe that yoga is a way of life, a philosophy that teaches our connection to all things and so my teaching will always have a hint of peaceful activism – gentle encouragement to practice kindness and compassion towards yourself, others and our planet, so we can all affect positive change.
I am a 500hr British Wheel of Yoga Level 4 Diploma certified teacher, a 300hr Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs teacher, 50hr Yin Yoga Teacher and a Panacea Project, Trauma Sensitive Yoga Practitioner (Yoga Alliance). I am a UK registered Chiropractor (GCC 03620), a member of the British Wheel of Yoga and the McTimoney Chiropractic Association.
1:1 sessions with me are £50 for 60 minutes or £275 for a course of 6 sessions.
